Three students from Hills Road Sixth Form College, Sam Polhill 17, John Doak 17 and Matt Timmons Brown 17 have recently won a debating competition.

Cambridge South Rotary Club held a Peace debate at the Leys School in Cambridge on Monday 19thSeptember, in aid of the annual worldwide 'Peace One Day'.

Sam Polhill said "Given the skill of all of the speakers, winning was a real honour and compliment."

The motion that the Hills Road students debated was 'This house believes that unmanned armed conflict is a recipe for disaster'; they had to argue in favour of this motion, and a team from Parkside Community College opposed.

Matt Timmons-Brown said "There was a great level of debating, with some fascinating topics."

Teams from the Leys School, Stephen Perse, Impington Village College and Comberton Village College debated similar motions throughout the evening.

John Doak said "It was fantastic to see such a variety of participants with very engaging and interesting speakers."
