Winstanley College’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) group have secured funding from The Royal Society for a research project into ‘proteomes’ (groups of proteins).

As part of the College’s STEM programme, students study for a Leader’s Award which includes making direct links with professionals from different fields within STEM.

Researchers from the Centre for Proteome Research at the University of Liverpool were the latest experts to be interviewed by the students, which proved to be a really inspiring exercise, developing their knowledge of topics such as Protein Mass Spectrometry and Protein Identification.

The students are currently doing a research project into proteomes, which has been funded by The Royal Society and so the interviews were particularly topical.

STEM co-ordinator, Dr. Jennifer Platt-Skerry commented: “There is a lot more planned for STEM over the coming months, including an exclusive invitation to The Royal Society’s Partnership Grants Conference in February, where students will have the chance to showcase some of their project work.”
