Sporty students from Winstanley College have qualified to represent the College and the North West region at the Association of Colleges Sport National Championships in 2016.

The mixed doubles badminton team, women’s football team, women’s volleyball team, plus two female and a male cross country runner have qualified for the National Championships in 2016. The teams and individuals from Winstanley College fought off stiff competition from colleges across the North West to win their place at the finals taking place in Tyne & Wear next April.

The National Championships will see the team competing against athletes from colleges across the UK. As well as individual glory, teams will be aiming to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

The Championships are now in their 38th year and remain the largest student sporting event in the UK, with nearly 1800 students taking part last year. Colleges will compete in 14 different sports over a three-day period, taking place in some of the best facilities in the country.
